This Chopin Plus recital brings together two of the defining figures of nineteenth-century piano music: Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt. Almost exact contemporaries, they transformed the expressive and technical possibilities of the piano in profoundly different ways.

Chopin’s late works reveal an increasingly complex musical language in which lyricism, harmonic experimentation and formal freedom become inseparable. From the introspective world of the Two Nocturnes Op. 62 and the visionary Polonaise-Fantaisie Op. 61 to the brilliance of the Fourth Scherzo, the programme traces different dimensions of his mature style.

Liszt expands the perspective from poetic reflection to landscape, literary imagination, virtuosity and operatic transformation. From the evocative sound worlds of Les jeux d’eaux à la Villa d’Este and Vallée d’Obermann to the Hungarian Rhapsody and the Rigoletto paraphrase, the piano becomes an instrument of extraordinary colour and orchestral breadth.

Within the ZeitenKlänge Music Festival, Chopin and Liszt are heard as parallel yet contrasting responses to their time: two composers who redefined the piano and opened new paths towards the musical language of the future.
